Hanging Out in New Zealand

Keith from The Progidy... Man what a gig!

My first post since Challenge Wanaka... I've had a lot on as you can see by my pics :-)... been sorting out a lot of business as well as cruising around New Zealand from the bottom to the top... having a bit of fun... as well as performing huge feats of endurance such as travelling for 14 hours with only two stops on a diet of pies, 'The Human League', coffee and choccy... I'm testing the limits of 'Human Performance'... the normal thing I like to do post Ironman race... So this blog is somewhat of a pictorial story.

Me and Case before getting sweaty at The Progidy... I tell you, dancing full on at a Techno Gig is a great way to acclimatise to the heat.

Shortly after Challenge Wanaka I made the executive decision not to do Ironman New Zealand, for a number of reasons: It would of taken a fair bit of dedication to get my fitness up again and I have had a lot of other stuff to do; I would've needed even more recovery time after IMNZ and I need to focus on my European season which pretty much starts in less than a month; it would've probably been the only WTC race I do... making it an expensive race due to the new Pro lisence rules and finally the Challenge crew really do offer a better deal to the athlete's than the WTC do especially the pro's.

The Mouth of The Beast... fully packed for the latest Road Trip... somewhere amongst all that kit I managed to get 4 bikes into her... :-)

Me an Em... Intrepid Explorers... at the foot of a Glacier near Wanaka

That was a freeeeeeekin freeeeeezin Glacial pool I'd just jumped into... as you can see the girls really care??? Nads are not designed to be that cold :-(... but good for the soul apparently.

So there's been quite a lot of planning going on over the last month and I'll release these details in my next Blog... but just for now I'll be in the Canary Islands in March :-)

But to the present as it's IMNZ this week... plus heaps of other races... I might not be doing much but everyone else is :-)

I'll have my eye on Sars, Harvey, Mike and Todd... hope you all have a good day... You will as long as I don't see you walking ;-)

In fact Me, Dunc, Andy, Ce, Bevan and any other broken Pro IM will all be watching from the sidelines this year... with a beer or two... it's gonna be F-U-N.

If you are racing... go easy on the bike and don't eat too much... but read more by having a look at this link:

Plenty of other racing going on with the athletes I coach...Leighton a young lad from NZ I've recently started coaching, after being very frustrated with his past performances has done nothing but improve over his last few races and has recently qualified for the World Junior Sprint Tri Champs in Hungary... Nice!

Regis M has been taking the Luxembourg Tri World by storm...
John and Jose are tackling Half IM China... they are mad after training through a Belgium winter!?!?
Go Rach... Mototapu Marathon... you'll love it! As will you in Taranaki Nic!

Thats more like it... hanging on the beach in Queenstown... they had a DJ and everything... + loads of pissed sun burnt Pommie back backers.

Other than dancing I have been doing some exercise... Me, Eric and Em at the top of the Crown Range near Wanaka

Back to Christchurch and more beautiful vistas

And even swimming... out to dive for shell fish (paua)... 1km out to sea in the background... and it's very difficult diving with a buoyant wet suit on.

Time to watch some triathlon on the Beach in Takapuna.

Celia keeping guard at transition.... with her handbag.

As Vicky Holland takes out the win for Grosse Britania! Go GB!

Thanks to all those readers out there, thanks for being patient and I'll update you with all the goss soon...

  1. I reckon that last photo of the guy from The Prodigy looks like my old mate Papa Lazarou. Bet he's not as funny though.

Farewell coach. Hope to see you back on our shores some time in the next ten years?? Remember, if you need anyone to look after your car, we're just the family (I don't trust those North Islanders).

Here's to the Canary Islands. :-)
